Star Ratings in Australia (AAA)

AAA Tourism Pty Ltd is an independent organisation, which operates the official STAR Rating scheme in Australia. STAR Rating definitions depend on the accommodation category.

The following categories and definitions are supplied by AAA Tourism Pty Ltd.

Hotel and Motel

International standard establishments offering superior appointments, furnishings and decor with an extensive range of first class guest services. A number and variety of room styles and/or suites available. Choice of dining facilities, 24 hour room service, housekeeping and valet parking. Porterage and concierge services as well as a dedicated business centre and conference facilities.

Exceptionally well appointed establishments with high quality furnishings and offering a high degree of comfort. High standard of presentation and guest services provided.

Well appointed establishments offering a comfortable standard of accommodation with above average furnishings and floor coverings.

Well maintained establishments offering an average standard of accommodation with average furnishings, bedding, and floor coverings.

Basic standard. Simply furnished. Resident manager.

An additional half STAR indicates properties offering similar standard to the appropriate full STAR Rating, but offering more comfort by providing additional features and items.

Holiday Units/Apartments/Cottages

International quality appointments, furnishings and decor with an extensive range of first class guest services and facilities. A benchmark under the applicable rating criteria.

Excellent quality accommodation, furnishings and facilities.

Well appointed establishments offering good, comfortable accommodation and facilities.

Moderate accommodation with comfortable furnishings and facilities.

Clean and basic with simple furnishings and facilities.

An additional half STAR indicates properties offering similar standard to the appropriate full STAR Rating, but offering more comfort by providing additional features and items.

Bed & Breakfast/Guesthouse/Private Hotel

International quality appointments, furnishings and decor with an extensive range of first class guest services and facilities. Must provide ensuites to all bedrooms plus the communal areas and bedroom must be fully air-conditioned with individual controls in each bedroom.

Excellent quality accommodation, furnishings and facilities. Must provide either individual or ensuite facilities for each bedroom.

Well appointed establishments offering good, comfortable accommodation and facilities.

Moderate accommodation with comfortable furnishings and facilities.

Clean and basic with simple furnishings and facilities.

An additional half STAR indicates properties offering similar standard to the appropriate full STAR Rating, but offering more comfort by providing additional features and items.

Tourist/Caravan Park (including Park Accommodation - Cabins)

Excellent with exceptional amenities/facilities and accommodation.

Very good with a high standard of amenities/facilities and accommodation.

Good, clean and well maintained, offering a good standard of amenities/facilities and comfort.

Moderate, clean, reasonably well maintained.

Basic and clean with basic amenities.
